Good Morning Friends,
Welcome to the latest Soapbox newsletter!
Our next gathering is on July 25th at Sierra Metro (one week today!) where you can come and meet like minded folk who freelance or are employed in culture, creative, tech & digital for a morning of blethering and sharing news and opportunities over a cuppa. Soapbox events are free, and you’re invited to pop along any time between 8am and 10am. Whether you stay for 10 minutes or the full 2 hour duration is totally up to you!
We’d love to see you there!
Updates:
I’m pretty sure I say this every month, but can you believe we’re almost at the end of July?! And in Edinburgh we’re pretty much on the doorstep of Festival season; The Fringe, The International Arts Festival, The International Film Festival, The Book Festival…so much is happening in the next couple of weeks!
Before I get into some great recommendations that have been shared within the community, I want to flag that our August event is taking place on the 22nd of the month – not our usual last Tuesday of the month slot but a week before. This is because we are collaborating with SCAN! It also means that if you pop along to our August event you’ll get to see the incredible new work of Australian artist Haein Kim who will be exhibiting their project PAIN2POWER.
Festival Recommendations:
I don’t know about you but I get excited for the festivals every year with so much culture on our doorstep, but reading through the various programmes of the many thousands of shows that are taking place is overwhelming so I usually rely on good recommendations from friends. With that in mind I reached out to our Soapbox community and this is what came back:

Sponsor News:
We have some great news; we have a brand-new sponsor: With Jack are an Insurance Company for Freelancers (and Limited Companies) based out of Glasgow. Founded by the amazing Ashley “With Jack is all about insurance for freelance creatives. Simple. That doesn’t mean more forms or faff – it means less. It’s not about endless features and stale service – it’s about one solid policy and the personal touch”.
If you’re in need of some insurance please go and check out With Jack, this page gives you some great examples as to why it’s so important to have a insurance.
Aside from creating a free event for our community, one of our goals at Soapbox is to provide support for professional (and personal!) endeavours. We believe that With Jack has an incredible amount of helpful information for you.
